Hi Hook Ninjas! Have you seen how adorable baby sloths are? This crochet pattern will guide you through the steps to make an easy amigurumi baby sloth. This is a intermediate pattern which means that it has other shapes than the sphere and that it requires some detailing.
You can use this Amigurumi baby sloth as a key chain, to hug your curtains or napkins on the table, as a baby toy, you name it!
Materials
For this free amigurumi pattern you will need:
- Beige yarn suitable for a 4mm hook
- Brown yarn suitable for a 4mm hook
- 1 pair of brown amigurumi plastic eyes of 8mm (you can use black eyes or any eyes of your preference)
- 1 pipe cleaner
- A small piece of beige felt
- Fiberfill stuffing
- This is a 2 Star pattern.
Hook size
For this pattern I used a standard aluminium Clover hook of 4mm. Read my other article "Which crochet hook should I choose?" For more info about materials and differences between crochet hooks. Please note that the bigger the hook, the bigger the holes between stitches in your amigurumi.
Head
The first thing we will start crocheting is the nose part:
With brown yarn (nose)
Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6 sts)
Round 2: 2 sc in each st around (12 sts)
Round 3: 2 sc in each, [sc in next 2 sts] around(18 sts)
Round 4: St around (18 sts)
Switch to beige and now we will continue with the head of the amigurumi baby sloth:
Round 5: sl st (In the internal loops only) In each st around (18 sts)
Round 6: (In the internal loops only) [2 sc, sc in next 3 st], around (24 sts)
Round 7: [2sc, sc in next 4 sts] around normally (30 sts)
Round 8 to 11: sc around (30 sts)
Install safety eyes on the sides of the nose.
Round 12: [Inv.Dec in next st, sc in next 4 sts] around (24 sts)
Round 13: [Inv.Dec in next st, sc in next 3 sts] around (18 sts)
Start filling the head with your fibrefill stuffing.
Round 14: [Inv.Dec in next st, sc in next 2 sts] around (12 sts)
Round 14: [Inv.Dec in next st, sc in next st] around (6 sts)
Fasten off.
Body
Round 1: st 6 into Mr. (6 sts)
Round 2: 2sc around (12 sts)
Round 3: [2 sc, sc in next sts], around (18 sts)
Round 4 to 8: sc around (18 sts)
Round 9:[Inv.Dec in next st, sc in next st] around (12 sts)
Start filling the body with your fiberfill stuffing.
Round 10: [Inv.Dec] around (6 sts)
Fasten off and sew to the head with a tapestry needle.
Instructions to sew the body and the head:
Remember that the brown part, which is the nose of the baby sloth should be facing front when you are sewing the body. Place the body under the head and sew with a tapestry needle.
ARMS AND LEGS: (MAKE 4: 2 arms, 2 legs)
Round 1: St 5 into mr (5 sts)
Round 2 to 3: sc around (5 sts)
Switch to beige
Round 4: 2sc in each st around (10)
Round 5 to 20 : sc around
Insert pipe cleaner or wire, once it is placed all the way inside the hand cut the end off and sew the hand to the body. Make this for all limbs.
You do not need to fill the hands and feet with stuffing.
Nose detail
Take the piece of beige felt and cut it in 8 shape. Remember to cut the holes of the 8 as well! :) Sew it to the head or glue it with wood glue.
