Amigurumi Santa Claus free pattern.
Amigurumi Santa is a small crochet project were you will practice how to crochet different sized pieces and how to change yarn as well as how to add felt details to an Amigurumi. Please reserve 2 days for this project.
Santa is most likely if not the most known man then at least the most anticipated man on the globe. The man, the myth, the little flying gnome that has Raindeers as friends and gives packages of joy to all the kids. There are many stories about his origins and purpose but if you ask a Finn then he will tell you that Santa lives in"Ear fell" in the Finnish Lapland.
Ask any Finn you meet about were Santa Claus comes from and they will without hesitation tell you the story. In the north of Finland in Rovaniemi they even have a Santa village that has become a big tourist attraction and if you send a postcard or letter addressed to Santa Claus, that is were it will end up.
Amigurumi Santa Claus
I made this little Amigurumi Santa Claus because Santa is a figure that always brings good feelings to people. From were I come from in South America we don't have Santa, just baby Jesus, and that's pretty lame especially compared to a flying man in red with a beard that has Raindeers and delivers presents. I always felt very curious about who this Santa Claus character was. :)

How to make the small pompom
Step 1:
Take a thick piece of paper. Cut two small circles of the same size.
Cut out a smaller circle inside of both.
Step 2:
Holding both circles together, start rolling yarn in through the hole of the middle. Fill it in until you cannot pass more yarn trough.
Step 3:
Find the out rim of the circles through the rolled yarn. Open a space between both circles and insert scissors in that space, cut the yarn always keeping the scissors between both circles. Cut around.
Step 4:
Cut a string of yarn and place it in the middle of both circles. Tie a knot to secure all the yarn pieces, you can wrap around and secure with another knot.
Step 5:
Take away the paper circles by cutting them with scissors and pull them out.
Step 6: Trim your pompom :)
Santa's Awesome Beard
In order to get a really nice, big, compact beard I decided to use felt. Normal woolen felt not the pressed kind. There is a technique that I use in order to get the effect. It's called "Needle Felting".
With this technique you can make figures and shapes all in felt. I like to use it for detailing because of its molding qualities.
Here is a youtube video that I made for Mama Santa Claus hair. The same technique is used in Mr. Santa Claus beard.
Our Amigururmi Squirrel Girl also has instructions for Needle felting.
Final Details
The belt of Santa is sewn or embroidered around his waist with black thread. If you happen have some pink felt or other pink fabric then you can give Santa some additional color by cutting out two oval pieces and gluing them to Santa's cheeks, just beneath the eyes. Remember to sew a smile on Santa before you start to needle felt. It will become difficult to try to get it in there afterwards.
